St Giles the Abbot, Farnborough

The church sits quietly on the high street in Warlingham, a solid Victorian rebuild of something far older. St Giles the Abbot is the sort of place you stumble past three times before you actually go in - and when you do, there's a real sense of stepping back centuries despite the 19th-century restoration work.

Inside, the space feels properly cared for. There's decent medieval stonework if you know what to look for, and the windows let light flood across stone that's been here since at least the 1300s. The nave is straightforward, nothing flashy, which somehow makes it more affecting than some of the more ornate parish churches you find round Surrey.

It's free to visit and won't take more than thirty minutes unless you're genuinely into church history, in which case you might spend longer reading the memorials and picking out architectural details. Families with young kids will find it a bit quiet - there's not much to actively do - but it's a solid addition to a walking afternoon if you're staying at Milberry Green Meadows just down the road.
