The walk into St Germans Recreational Ground surprises you. What starts as a modest layby near Widegates opens onto proper countryside - grassland sloping down to woodland with the River Tiddy running through it. This is a genuine nature reserve rather than a polished visitor attraction, which means it's peaceful and you won't queue anywhere. The ground itself is mostly open meadow with scattered trees, good for spotting birds and the occasional buzzard. The woodland sections are dense enough to feel like a real walk, though nothing strenuous. Most people cover the main loop in forty minutes to an hour, depending how often you stop to look about.

Families with younger kids will find it manageable - the paths are clear and there's room to let them run ahead safely.
