St. Germans Parish Church

The church sits on a slope above the village of St Germans, near Widegates, and you can't miss the massive twin towers that rise above the tree line. They're properly striking - all Norman stonework and history, dating back to the 12th century when this was actually a priory. Inside, the scale is impressive: soaring arches, decent stained glass, and enough medieval detail to keep architecture buffs occupied for a solid hour.

It's the kind of place history enthusiasts will genuinely enjoy, though casual visitors might spend twenty minutes and call it done. Families with older kids will get more from it than toddlers - the graveyard's atmospheric but not a playground. The walk up from the car park is a bit steep for what it is, so factor that in.

Admission appears to be free, which is fair given the modest facilities, though opening hours aren't clearly posted so you might find it locked. Best time is weekday afternoons when you'll have the place to yourself.

If you're staying at Lydcott Glamping or the larger Tregoad or Looe sites nearby, this makes a sensible half-morning detour while you're exploring the area. Pair it with a walk down to the village itself - there's not much there, but the riverside walk towards Looe is lovely. Worth the trip if medieval churches are your thing; skip it if you've already done a few in Cornwall.
