St David's Church

The churchyard sits quiet on the edge of Glastonbury, and you'll spot the tower before anything else - a proper Somerset perpendicular job, solid and weathered. St David's Church isn't the grandest place of worship you'll encounter, but there's something genuinely moving about its simplicity. Inside, the light falls through medieval windows onto stone that's been walked on for centuries. The nave's reasonably intimate, nothing theatrical about it.

This one appeals most to church history types and anyone doing the Glastonbury pilgrimage trail - it slots neatly into that circuit without demanding hours of your time. Half an hour covers it comfortably, maybe a bit longer if you're the kind to read every inscription. The churchyard itself is worth a wander, with some interesting older graves tucked away.

Free to enter, as you'd expect with a working parish church. Just show the usual courtesy - if there's a service on, you're visiting someone's place of worship, not a museum. The positioning near Glastonbury proper means you can easily combine this with a look at the town itself, or use it as a quieter counterpoint if you find the high street a bit much.

If you're based at Long Hazel Park just five miles out, this makes a manageable morning stop before exploring the levels or heading into town. Not everyone's cup of tea, but for those who appreciate understated medieval churches, it's worth the detour.
