St Comgall's Church

A modest medieval church that most visitors to Antrim will walk straight past without noticing. St Comgall's sits quietly in the town centre, its grey stone walls and simple architecture speaking more to function than flourish. It's genuinely old - the sort of place where you can feel centuries pressing down on you, though the current building dates mainly from the 17th century with later Victorian bits bolted on.

Inside, it's austere and restful. There's a decent amount of stained glass and some proper period stonework, but you won't be lingering for hours. History enthusiasts will appreciate the connection to Saint Comgall himself, an early Irish monk, and the site's deep roots in the area. Families with young children might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're genuinely into old churches - there's no interactive nonsense, just the real thing.

The church is free to enter, though opening hours aren't fixed, so you'll need to check locally or try your luck. It works best as part of a broader wander through Antrim town rather than a destination in itself. If you're camping at Blair's Castlewood Holiday Park or Six Mile Water Caravan Park - both barely a mile away - it's worth a fifteen-minute detour on your way to better attractions in the area. Don't rearrange your itinerary for it, but don't skip it either if you're passing through.
