St Benedict's Church,

The medieval tower of St Benedict's rises above the Northamptonshire landscape with proper presence - it's one of those churches you spot from the car and think, "I should stop there." And you should. This is a working parish church with serious history attached: Saxon foundations, Norman stonework, and the kind of layered architecture that tells you something mattered here for over a thousand years.

Inside, the space feels genuinely lived-in rather than museum-like. The chancel and nave work together in that satisfying way medieval builders understood, and if you're into medieval churches - the sort of person who notices capitals and responds to proportions - you'll find plenty to absorb. It's not overrun with tourists, which is refreshing.

It's free to visit, obviously, and takes about twenty minutes unless you're doing a proper architectural study. History types will get the most from it; younger children might find it brief unless they're already interested in old buildings. The closest town is Northampton, but you're really out in proper countryside here.

Camp at Blisworth Park just 2.6 miles away and you can walk to the church through decent Northamptonshire terrain. Kirkely Meadows (4.8 miles) also sits within reasonable striking distance if you're base-camping and exploring the local parish churches. It pairs well with a broader ramble through the area - the kind of slow, unrushed day where you're not racing between attractions.
