The Sprucefield Centre is a working garden that grows all manner of plants and produce on the outskirts of Lisburn - proper operation, this, not just a tourist attraction tacked on as an afterthought. You're looking at polytunnels, vegetable beds, a small shop selling what they've actually grown, and sometimes plants for sale depending on the season. It's genuinely useful if you're stopping nearby rather than a destination in itself.

Families with young kids might spend an hour here, especially if the weather's decent and there's something ready to harvest. Gardeners will find it more interesting - you get a real sense of how commercial-scale growing actually works, which beats most of the manicured show gardens you find elsewhere. The staff know what they're on about and will chat if you ask questions.

It's free to wander around, though exact opening hours aren't widely advertised, so check ahead before you make the trip. Spring and summer are obviously the better bets when things are actually growing rather than dormant. Given it's only a few miles from Hillsborough, you could string this together with Lakeside View Caravan Park as a base and fill out a half-day or so. Don't expect tea rooms or visitor facilities - this is a working space, not a destination garden centre. That's actually what makes it worth visiting if you're staying locally and fancy something low-key.
