Spoutyard Park

The reserve sits just outside Louth, a proper working landscape where you can actually see what Lincolnshire's natural heritage looks like beyond the flat-field stereotypes. Spoutyard Park is a nature reserve that gives you woodland, wetland, and grassland all in one go - the kind of place where you're more likely to spot something interesting than at yet another manicured country estate.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most from it. The paths are straightforward enough, nothing that demands hiking boots, but there's enough variation to keep you moving for a solid hour or two. You're looking at native trees, wetland birds if you time it right, and the sort of quietness that makes you remember why you left the city. Families with younger kids might find it a bit thin on attractions - there's no visitor centre, no café, no obvious "things to do" in the modern sense. But if your children are the type who'll actually stop to look at something rather than just run through it, they'll be fine.

The reserve works well as a morning walk if you're staying at Stewton Stars Hideaway nearby - it's close enough that you can do it without it feeling like a separate trip. The Lincolnshire Wolds National Landscape is also within reach if you want to combine a few different landscapes in a day. Free to access, naturally. Go early or late in the day if you want light that's actually interesting.
