Spiders in the Wood

You're standing in front of what looks like an ordinary woodland building near Perth, but inside is something genuinely unexpected - a gallery dedicated entirely to spider art and sculpture. Spiders in the Wood takes an obsession most people would rather avoid and turns it into something thoughtful, even beautiful. The installations use the forest itself as part of the exhibition, so you're moving between trees and artwork in a way that feels deliberately unsettling and compelling at once.

It's not a mainstream attraction, which means it attracts a particular type of visitor - artists, eccentrics, anyone curious enough to seek out something weird and wonderful. Families with young children might find it interesting for ten minutes; adults who actually look at things will easily spend an hour here. The work plays with scale, material and your own discomfort in clever ways.

Bring proper walking shoes because you'll be moving through woodland, and it can get muddy. Timing-wise, you'll want to check their current opening hours before heading out - it's not a place that's reliably open every day of the week.

If you're based at one of the local caravan sites - Scone Camping and Caravanning Club Site is excellent and only a short drive away - this makes a decent half-day outing when the weather's decent. It's the sort of place that works best if you're already in the area exploring Perthshire properly rather than a destination in itself. Worth the detour if you're the type to wander, genuinely odd.
