Sparrow Copse

The woodland around Sparrow Copse near Horsham is properly quiet - the sort of place where you notice birdsong instead of traffic. It's a working forest rather than some manicured nature reserve, which means you get genuine woodland without the visitor centre and car park faffing.

Families with capable walkers will be fine, though there's not much to entertain younger kids beyond "look, a fallen log". History enthusiasts won't find much - this is about the walk itself, not some listed structure or heritage angle.

The nearest town, Horsham, is only a few miles south, so you could pair this with other local walking. If you're staying at Cattlestone Farm - the luxury adult camping spot about 6 miles away - Sparrow Copse makes an excellent morning outing before heading back for something more comfortable than a tent.

Free to access, no facilities on site, so bring water and pack out what you pack in. Go when it's not raining and you'll leave wondering why more people don't know about it.
