A proper working harbour that actually feels like a place where things happen - not some sanitised tourist attraction. Sovereign Harbour sits right on the edge of Pevensey, a sprawling marina development where you'll find fishing boats coming and going alongside leisure craft, cafes with outdoor seating overlooking the water, and enough space to wander for a good hour or two without feeling crowded.

What you're getting is a slice of real coastal life rather than heritage theatre. Families do well here - kids can watch the boats, grab chips, explore the waterside paths - but there's nothing specifically laid on for them. If you're into fishing, maritime activity, or just want a straightforward walk with water views, it's worth the detour. The promenade is flat and accessible, the light catches the water nicely in late afternoon, and there's genuine activity to watch.

It's free to wander around, though you'll pay for food and drink at the harbourside venues. Allow an hour minimum, longer if you're chatty with the fishermen or want lunch. Early morning or late afternoon beats midday when it gets busy with day-trippers.

If you're based at Pevensey Bay Holiday Park just a mile away, this becomes an obvious evening stroll. From Normans Bay or Warren Wood further out, it's worth popping over as a break from the typical park routine - though don't expect it to fill a whole day. Bit of salt air, some movement, a change of scene.
