South Queensferry - Echline Ave - Play Park

The play park on Echline Avenue sits right where the Firth of Forth starts to proper widen, and on a clear day you can see right across to Edinburgh. It's not massive - the sort of place where you'll spend an hour rather than a whole afternoon - but it's got what matters: a decent climbing frame, swings, and some open grass where kids can actually run about without worrying.

What makes it worth the trip from Dunfermline is the setting. This isn't tucked away in a housing estate somewhere. You're literally metres from the water, and the mudflats and marshland that make up the Echline foreshore are proper wildlife habitat. Bring binoculars and you might spot waders or the odd heron. The walk down there is easy enough with small kids, and there's something about playing on a beach-adjacent park that feels a bit more special than the standard playground.

It's free, and there's parking nearby without fussing about. Best visited at low tide if you fancy a paddle or a proper poke about the shore. The wind can get a bit keen off the water, so come prepared. Families with younger kids - say under eight - will get the most from it. Older children might find the equipment a touch basic unless they're keen on the nature side.
