Snape Plantation

Snape Plantation is a proper working forest east of Diss in Suffolk - the sort of place you'll stumble upon if you're exploring the quieter side of East Anglia. It's managed woodland rather than a formal visitor attraction, so there are no gates, no admission booths, no gift shop. You get forest walks, some decent stands of conifers mixed with broadleaf trees, and the genuine article: a working landscape.

For walkers and anyone after a bit of peace, it's excellent. The trails are straightforward enough, the shade is welcome on hot days, and there's that satisfying silence you only get in proper woods. Families with young kids will manage fine for an hour or so - long enough to let them burn off some energy without needing a Michelin-star packed lunch. Birdwatchers come here too; you'll spot jays and woodpeckers if you're quiet about it.

There's no parking infrastructure to speak of, so you're working with roadside stops or parking in nearby Diss itself, which is worth knowing. Allow 90 minutes to two hours if you want an actual walk rather than a quick constitutional.
