A proper woodland walk on the edge of Coventry, Smiths Wood is the kind of place locals actually use rather than tourists flocking to tick off. You're looking at native broadleaf forest - oak, ash, hazel - with gentle paths that wind through without too much drama. It's peaceful, genuinely so, which counts for a lot when you're camping nearby at Somers Wood Caravan Park just down the road.

The forest floor is soft underfoot, and in spring the whole place comes alive with bluebells. Summer's thick with green canopy, autumn drops golden leaves everywhere, and winter strips it back to something skeletal and honest. There aren't facilities to speak of, no visitor centre or tea rooms, which is rather the point. You go to walk, breathe, maybe spot a woodpecker if you're lucky and quiet.

Families with young kids who don't mind a straightforward stroll will get on fine here. It's not a destination that demands half a day - more like a solid hour or so depending on your pace. Walkers and anyone after a bit of genuine woodland rather than something packaged will rate it. History enthusiasts might find it less engaging unless you're into ancient forests.
