Skegness Beach

The seafront at Skegness stretches for miles in both directions, a proper classic British seaside with all the good bits and the slightly worn bits too. Golden sand slopes gently into the North Sea, and on a decent day the light bounces off the water in that way that makes you remember why your grandparents insisted on bucket-and-spade holidays.

The beach is free to access, though parking near the seafront costs money during peak season. The golden stretch works best at low tide when you get proper space to roam. Summer weekends get rammed - mornings are calmer. Winter feels properly atmospheric if you can handle the bite in the wind.

The town's other attractions - the fun fair, the pier, the old donkey rides - sit right along the same stretch, so you're looking at a proper old-school seaside day out rather than a nature reserve experience.
