Sir Bobby Robson Bridge

The Sir Bobby Robson Bridge spans the River Orwell just outside Ipswich, a striking modern footbridge that opened in 2006 to honour the legendary football manager. It's a proper engineering feat - a cable-stayed design with that distinctive white pylon that you can spot from miles away across the Suffolk flatlands.

The bridge itself is free to cross and takes about ten minutes to walk from one side to the other. What makes it worth the trip isn't just the structure though - it's the views across the Orwell estuary and back towards Ipswich's waterfront that catch you off guard. On a clear day, you get a real sense of how this river has shaped the town's history as a port.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own - it's not a destination you'd spend hours at. But if you're staying at Wheathill holiday park nearby, it's a cracking spot for a walk and a decent photo opportunity without any fuss. The towpath either side offers extended walks along the estuary if you fancy stretching it out.
