Sighthill Public Park

The view from Sighthill stops you dead. On a clear day you're looking straight across Edinburgh's skyline, castle perched on the rock like something from a postcard. It's a proper vantage point, the kind of spot locals know about but visitors rarely stumble upon.

This is grassland with intent - open moorland that climbs steeply enough to earn the walk but not so much that it exhausts you. The reserve sits just outside Newbridge, close enough to the city to feel part of Edinburgh's story yet far enough out to feel like genuine countryside. Paths are clear and well-trodden, nothing technical. A wind can whip across here though, so come prepared for weather rather than expecting shelter.

The park works best for walkers and history types. There's real substance to it if you know what you're looking at - this was once an execution site, which adds weight to standing up there. Kids might find it a bit sparse after half an hour, truth be told. It's not a playground destination. It's the kind of place you go to clear your head or grab that photograph of the city sprawled below you.

Free to access, and worth allowing an hour if you want to summit and take in the views properly. The walking's straightforward, so it pairs well with other Edinburgh attractions. If you're based at Linwater Caravan Park a few miles away, it's the sort of morning mission that leaves your afternoon free for the city proper.
