Siccaridge Wood

Siccaridge Wood sits just outside Stroud, a proper Cotswolds woodland walk that rewards you with views across the valley if you pick the right vantage points. It's ancient mixed woodland - the kind of place where you actually feel like you've stepped away from things, not just wandered round a managed nature reserve.

The walk itself takes anything from 45 minutes to two hours depending on which paths you take and how often you stop. There are enough routes threading through here to keep things interesting without needing a map, though locals seem to know the best bits. You'll find bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the tree cover makes it decent even on drizzly days - the kind of wood that feels moody rather than bleak.

Historically minded visitors will get more out of knowing this has been managed woodland for centuries, though don't expect interpretation boards or visitor facilities. Families with energetic kids will find it engaging enough for a morning, walkers properly get it, and it's close enough to Stroud that you can combine it with a proper lunch in town.

If you're based at any of the campsites within five miles - Middle Lypiatt, Tobacconist Farm, or Cherry Tree Glamping are all handy - this makes an excellent half-day excursion. Free access, no time restrictions that I could find, and genuinely worth the drive from somewhere like Cirencester if woodland walking is your thing. Not Instagram-worthy, but honest.
