Shore Rd Park

The walk along Shore Road takes you right down to the water's edge, where you've got proper views across the Firth of Forth. It's more of a coastal path than a formal park, if I'm honest - the kind of place locals know about but tourists often miss heading straight for St Andrews.

What you're actually doing here is following a scenic route with the water on one side and Dunfermline backing you inland. The reserve itself is quiet, occasionally windswept, and absolutely free. You can clock a good hour's walk without feeling rushed, though it's the sort of spot where you might just sit on a bench for twenty minutes watching the water. Birds are what draw the serious types here - it's a decent spot for spotting waders and seabirds, particularly if you come during migration seasons.

Families with restless kids might find it a bit thin on attractions - there's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, just the path and the views. But if you're hiking types or after some peace and quiet while staying at Kinghorn Harbour Holiday Park just down the coast, it's well worth the detour. The coastal Fife path connects this area nicely, so you can string a longer walk together if you want.

Best visited when it's not howling a gale - autumn and spring are cracking. Summer gets busy with people enjoying the straightforward coastal atmosphere.
