Sgorr na Diollaid

The walk up Sgorr na Diollaid isn't going to take all day, but that's rather the point. This modest Highland peak sits just outside Beauly and rewards you with proper views across the Strathglass valley without demanding a full expedition's worth of kit and determination.

The terrain is straightforward enough - it's the kind of hill that makes sense for a half-day sortie if you're staying at Cannich Woodland Camping and Caravan Park nearby, or based in Beauly itself. The ridge opens up as you climb, and on a clear day you get a real sense of the Highlands spreading out in front of you rather than just trudging uphill through tree cover.

It's ideal if you've got walkers in your group who want the satisfaction of a summit without the commitment of something like Ben Wyvis or the bigger neighbours. Kids won't get bored before you reach the top, which counts for something. Allow a couple of hours there and back at an easy pace, maybe three if you're not in a rush and want to linger at the summit.

The approach is accessible year-round, though winter conditions can make the going trickier. There's no charge to climb it, obviously - it's a Scottish hill. Pair it with a walk round Loch Affric or explore the woodland around Cannich if you've got the energy left. It's one of those peaks that sits comfortably in a broader Highland trip rather than demanding to be the main event.
