Seymer's Marsh

The water at Seymer's Marsh is remarkably still on a calm day - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. This shallow lake sits just outside Swanage and has become something of a local favourite, though it never feels rammed with day-trippers. There's a decent walking route around the perimeter if you want to stretch your legs, and the wildlife spotting can be genuinely good if you know when to visit. It's the sort of spot that works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Ulwell Holiday Park or Woodyhyde Campsite and fancy a low-key afternoon away from the beach crowds. Families with younger kids will find it manageable - shallow water, accessible paths, no technical hikes required. That said, it's not the kind of attraction that'll occupy you for hours. Come for the walk, bring binoculars if you're interested in birds, maybe pack a picnic and settle in for half an hour of peace.
