The golden domes catch the light from the A1 bypass before you've even parked. This Serbian Orthodox church is about as unexpected as it gets in rural Northamptonshire - a proper slice of Eastern Europe transplanted to the countryside between Peterborough and nowhere much. Inside, the iconostasis dominates, all intricate carvings and religious imagery that would look equally at home in Belgrade or Moscow. The air smells of incense and beeswax. It's genuinely atmospheric, even if you've no particular interest in Orthodox Christianity.

The church serves the Serbian community scattered across the Midlands, so it's working place of worship rather than tourist attraction. That said, visitors are welcome, though it's worth checking ahead before turning up - services and visiting hours aren't advertised online. The congregation tends to be there weekends, so mornings can be quiet. Allow 30 minutes to walk round and take it in properly.

History types will appreciate the iconography and theological detail. Kids less so, unless you've got proper keen ones - it's not interactive or child-friendly in the slightest. If you're staying at Brightside Caravan Park, it's barely five minutes away; from New Lodge Farm Bulwick, you're looking at just over that. Neither park is particularly close to major attractions, which makes this a useful cultural pause if you're passing through rather than a reason to visit on its own. That said, if you're already in the area, it's worth the detour. Genuinely unusual.
