Sentinel is a contemporary art gallery tucked into Clackmannanshire that punches well above what you'd expect from a venue in a smaller Scottish town. What you'll find depends on when you visit, as it runs rotating exhibitions rather than a permanent collection. That's either brilliant or annoying depending on how you feel about galleries that keep you guessing. The work tends toward the contemporary and experimental side, which means it appeals most to anyone who likes their art with a bit of bite rather than something to match the sitting room.

It's a 20-minute or so wander around Clackmannan itself if you're being thorough, so factor that in. The town has actual history - it's one of Scotland's smallest burghs - but Sentinel is the artistic anchor if you're after something more recent than medieval.

If you're based at Highland Gateway Glamping or Witches Craig just down the road, this is a solid afternoon stop between outdoor stuff. It won't take all day, but that's rather the point. Close enough to a proper park break that you could do this without it feeling like a cultural obligation, but genuine enough that you won't feel like you've wasted the trip. Worth an hour if you're in the area.
