Seaview Colonnade

The seafront at Sutton on Sea isn't what it was - but the Seaview Colonnade still commands respect. This Victorian-era structure runs along the promenade like a proper slice of old-school seaside Britain, all iron pillars and period charm. You walk through it and suddenly understand why families used to queue for hours to get their deckchairs set up in the shade.

It's not a "do something" attraction in the theme-park sense. There's no entrance fee or queuing. You simply stroll through, catch the sea breeze, maybe grab a bite from whatever vendors are operating that day. On a decent afternoon - and by decent I mean wind below 20 knots - it's genuinely pleasant. The views across the North Sea are functional rather than dramatic, but that's Lincolnshire's coastline for you.

History buffs will find the architecture interesting enough, particularly if you know what to look for. Families won't get bored, though you're only talking twenty minutes of walking unless you're the sort who lingers. It's free, obviously, and works best as a breather between the holiday parks scattered nearby - Haven Golden Sands is three miles south, Woodthorpe Leisure Park five miles inland.

Go on a quieter weekday if you can. Summer weekends turn it into a bit of a walking corridor. Worth half an hour as part of a wider coast visit, but don't expect revelations.
