Seaside Rec & Playground

The shingle beach at Seaside Rec stretches wide and proper quiet, especially out of season. It's a working nature reserve rather than a manicured visitor attraction - you'll find families mucking about on the playground, dog walkers picking their way across the pebbles, and serious birdwatchers with binoculars glued to their faces. The playground itself is nothing fancy, but kids seem content enough running between the equipment while parents keep an eye on the shoreline.

This is genuinely best visited in winter or early spring when the migrating birds are about. You might spot redshank, oystercatchers, or if you're lucky, a ringed plover. The walking is straightforward - flat, no real climbing - which suits families with younger children or anyone after a gentle coastal ramble without the ice cream van crowds of summer.

Pevensey town is just down the road, and if you're staying at Pevensey Bay Holiday Park or heading to Warren Wood Country Park further inland, this makes a decent morning detour. Reckon on an hour here if you're just stretching your legs, longer if you've brought binoculars and a field guide. There's car parking nearby which helps, though it can get tight when weather's decent.

Honestly, don't expect facilities or refreshments. Bring what you need. The appeal is the quietness and the actual working reserve aspect - you're not here for amenities, you're here for a slice of Sussex coast that hasn't been entirely turned into a theme park.
