About Scarey Tor
The tor itself is rocky and dramatic in that West Country way, with massive chunks of granite piled up like giant's playthings. On a clear day you can see for miles. On a grey day, which Devon serves up regularly, it's moody and atmospheric instead. Either way, it's worth the scramble.
Families with walkers aged eight and up will manage it fine. Younger kids might find the final push tough, though it's not technical. The whole outing takes a couple of hours if you're leisurely about it. Free to visit, obviously - it's just moorland.
If you're based at Woodland Springs Touring Park nearby, Scarey Tor makes an excellent morning out before heading off to bigger attractions. It's close enough for a quick leg-stretch but rewarding enough that it doesn't feel rushed. Worth fitting in before you hit the main Dartmoor routes, really.
