Sandpit Hill doesn't grab you with drama. It's a modest rise near Guildford, offering decent views across the Surrey countryside if you can be bothered with the walk up. The summit itself is fairly unremarkable - you're looking at Surrey's gentle, rolling landscape rather than anything that'll make your jaw drop.

That said, it's perfectly adequate if you're already in the area and fancy a leg-stretch. The climb takes maybe 20 minutes from the car park, nothing strenuous, so families with younger kids or anyone wanting a casual ramble will get on fine here. Walkers tackling longer routes through the Surrey Hills might use it as part of a bigger loop - it's convenient rather than compelling.

The real appeal is the straightforward access and proximity to Guildford. If you're staying at one of the caravan parks in the region, Sandpit Hill works as an hour's activity - grab a packed lunch, climb up, sit for a bit, come down. It's unpretentious that way.

Visit in late morning to dodge the crowds, and bring layers because the wind at the top can be sharper than you'd expect. There's no café up here, no facilities to speak of. It's just a hill with a view. Worth a visit if you're nearby? Yes. Worth planning a day around? Probably not. But that's fine - not everything needs to be Instagram gold.
