Sandham Crazy Golf

The crazy golf course at Sandham sits just back from Sandown seafront, and it's the sort of place that looks cheerfully dated in a way that feels proper seaside. You get eighteen holes of miniature golf complete with the usual windmills, ramps, and obstacles - nothing revolutionary, but executed well enough that it genuinely challenges you rather than just killing twenty minutes.

It works best for families with kids aged five to twelve. Teenagers often find it a bit slow, and adults without children in tow might feel slightly self-conscious. That said, a competitive round with mates can be surprisingly entertaining, especially if you're already half-cut on the seafront lager. The course winds around artificial greens and past fibreglass distractions in classic style - no pretension, just straightforward fun.

If you're staying at Sandhills Holiday Park or White Cliff Bay, it's close enough for an afternoon activity without requiring a big expedition. You won't need more than an hour unless you're genuinely rubbish at golf. Fair warning: the slope on hole seven is steeper than it looks, and the final stretch catches out even people who've been playing well.

It's the kind of thing that costs a few quid and serves its purpose - not worth planning a whole trip around, but well worth doing if you're in Sandown for a week and fancy something rain-proof on a dodgy afternoon.
