Sand Point

The walk out to Sand Point from Burnham-on-Sea takes you along the seafront and up onto a modest headland that juts into the Bristol Channel. It's not dramatic - Somerset's coastline doesn't do drama - but there's something quietly satisfying about getting out here, especially on a clear day when you can see across the water towards Wales.

The point itself is a short, fairly straightforward walk from the town centre, maybe twenty minutes or so depending on your pace. Once you're up there, you get decent views along the coast and out to sea. It's the kind of place where locals come regularly rather than somewhere that'll stop you in your tracks. Fair warning: if the weather's turned, it can feel a bit exposed and windswept.

Walkers will find it fits nicely into a longer coastal ramble, and it's low-effort enough for families with younger kids who don't fancy anything too ambitious. The views are better than you'd expect for such a small detour, and the walk itself is pleasant enough. On a decent day, you'll want to allow an hour to get there, have a look around, and get back.

If you're staying at Warren Farm or Diamond Farm - both solid choices for a seaside holiday - Sand Point is practically on your doorstep. Channel View is a bit further along the coast. The whole area around Burnham works well for mixing coastal walks with quieter beach time, and this viewpoint slots in without needing any special planning or equipment.
