Salty Law

Salty Law is a proper little peak that rises above the Renfrewshire countryside, and it's the sort of walk that rewards you without demanding your life savings or a full day's commitment. The summit sits around 1,000 feet, which means you get genuine views across the Lowlands without needing mountaineering experience or specialist kit.

The climb itself takes about an hour from Lochwinnoch - a straightforward pull uphill through moorland that gets steeper near the top. On clear days you can see across to the Clyde Valley and beyond, though Scottish weather being what it is, you'll need to time your visit sensibly. The path's well-trodden and obvious, which is either a relief or a sign you're not exactly pioneering new territory, depending on your mood.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Families with kids aged eight upwards can manage it, though younger ones might find the final stretch tedious. The views are genuine rather than breath-taking - this isn't Ben Lomond - but there's something satisfying about bagging a peak that sits comfortably between a stroll and a proper hike.
