Salter's Sanctuary

A proper woodland walk just outside King's Lynn, Salter's Sanctuary is the sort of place you stumble upon and immediately wonder why you haven't been before. The forest floor is soft underfoot, paths wind through mature trees, and there's genuine peace here - the kind where you can actually hear yourself think.

It's a straightforward affair: woodland trails through Norfolk's forests, good for walkers who want something low-key without the rigmarole of peak-season tourist spots. You'll spot birds, get a bit of fresh air, and if you're lucky with timing, avoid the crowds entirely. Families with younger kids might get a solid hour out of it; older walkers could easily spend half a day here if they're not in a rush.

The main draw is simplicity. No gift shop, no visitor centre faff, just trees and pathways. That said, it's not dramatic - don't expect stunning vistas or rare wildlife encounters. This is gentle Norfolk woodland, not a highland adventure. Allow an hour to ninety minutes depending on which route you take.

If you're based at Kings Lynn Caravan & Camping Park or the Sandringham site nearby, it's an easy morning outing before heading elsewhere. It works well as part of a broader Norfolk ramble rather than a destination in itself. Free to access, though do check conditions after heavy rain - the paths can get muddy. Best visited midweek if you want solitude.
