Saint Mary's Church Longworth

A proper 13th-century church sits quietly in Longworth village, just outside Witney, with the sort of solid stone construction that makes you realise how much effort went into building the thing back then. The interior is simple but genuinely moving - wooden beams, old stone, that particular smell of centuries of worship that you can't manufacture. The churchyard is worth a wander on its own, all overgrown corners and weathered graves.

You won't need more than 45 minutes unless you're the type to sit and contemplate for a bit. There's no visitor centre or tearoom, just a church doing what it's done for roughly 800 years.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Lincoln Farm Park Partnership or The Real Campsite are both close enough for a morning outing - this makes an easy detour on the way to somewhere else rather than a destination in itself. Witney's only two miles away if you need coffee or proper facilities. Admission should be free, as is typical with village churches, though opening hours aren't guaranteed so you might find it locked. Worth the five-minute drive from the caravan, definitely. Worth planning a whole day around it? Probably not, unless you're genuinely into church architecture.
