Saint Barnabas Parish Church

The church sits quietly on the edge of Congleton, a proper Victorian-era build that doesn't shout about itself. Saint Barnabas is sandstone and solid, the sort of place that rewards a careful wander round the churchyard before you venture inside.

What strikes you first is the craftsmanship - decent stained glass, a decent organ, the kind of mid-19th-century detail that feels thoughtful rather than ostentatious. It's not some grand cathedral moment, but that's rather the point. This is a working parish church, and it reads as one. The interior has that particular quiet that old churches do, even when they're not technically empty.

It's worth an hour of your time if you're into Victorian architecture or just fancy a break from the cabin. Families won't find it endlessly engaging - kids will get restless after 20 minutes - but history-minded walkers should absolutely swing by. Free to enter, as far as we can tell, though it's always decent form to slip something in the donation box.
