Rushmoor Country Park

Rushmoor Country Park sits just outside Louth and is really more countryside than zoo - think open parkland with animals roaming about rather than cages and enclosures. You'll find deer, peacocks, and various farm animals dotted across the grounds. It's a genuinely relaxed spot where you can wander at your own pace, bring a picnic, and let the kids burn off some energy without the intensity of a proper theme park.

Families with younger children will get the most from it - there's something satisfying about spotting the resident animals as you explore, and the grounds are manageable enough that even toddlers won't exhaust themselves. Older kids and adults after a bit more action might find an hour or so enough; it's not enormous. The beauty of the place is that it's low-key. No queues, no crowds, just trees and grass and the occasional peacock giving you a hard stare.

Visit when the weather's decent - there's not much shelter if the rain sets in, and muddy paths become pretty slippery. It works brilliantly as part of a park holiday around here. Stewton Stars Hideaway is barely a mile away if you're after glamping, or Lakeside Park offers the full holiday park experience a touch further out. The whole area is proper Lincolnshire countryside, so if you're basing yourself in the region, Rushmoor breaks up a few days nicely without demanding a huge time commitment.
