Rushmire Hill

The walk up Rushmire Hill from Dursley isn't long, but it delivers proper views across the Cotswold escarpment that make the effort worthwhile. You're looking at maybe forty minutes up from town, following tracks that get progressively steeper the closer you get to the summit. The hill itself sits at a decent height - enough to feel like you've actually climbed something, but not so much that it'll knacker families with younger kids.

What you get at the top is a genuine 360-degree panorama. Clear days reward you with views stretching right across Gloucestershire and into Wales on the horizon. The grassland feels properly wild up there, and it's popular with walkers tackling sections of the Cotswold Way, so you'll rarely feel alone without it ever being rammed.

This works brilliantly if you're staying at Pepper Pot Caravan Park just down the road - barely three miles away. The Riverside at The George Inn and Tudor Caravan Park are a bit further out, but all three sit within comfortable striking distance for a morning walk before heading back for lunch. It's the sort of thing that takes a couple of hours total, which is ideal when you've got a caravan holiday to enjoy elsewhere too.

Bring proper boots. The final push gets boggy when it's been wet, and the sheep don't care how slowly you're moving. Come mid-morning on a weekday and you'll have it mostly to yourself.
