Rugby Great Central Walk

The old railway line that curves through Rugby and beyond has been converted into a proper walking and cycling route, and it's one of those rare local projects that actually works. The Great Central Walk follows the trackbed of a Victorian railway, which means you get long, gentle gradients and views you wouldn't find on a typical footpath. It's flat, straightforward, and surprisingly green for somewhere so close to a town.

Walkers will find this the obvious choice - the path is well-maintained and you can easily do an hour's stroll without breaking a sweat. Cyclists appreciate the surface too, though it's busier with leisure riders than serious commuters. The stretch towards Lutterworth is pleasant enough, with hedgerows and open fields giving it breathing room from the surrounding suburbs.

Families won't find this thrilling for more than a couple of hours, if we're honest. Kids need more incident than a straightforward towpath offers. But if you're camped at Manor Farm or Meadow Field Luxury Glamping, both within a few miles, it's a useful safety valve - somewhere to burn energy without driving anywhere.

Access appears to be free and open, though the lack of a proper website is telling. Go on a weekday morning if you want peace. The route works best as part of a wider walk rather than a destination in itself - link it with local landmarks or combine it with a trip to Stanford Hall, just a bit further out. Proper for a leg stretch, but don't expect magic.
