Worcester's industrial heritage doesn't get much more tangible than this. The Royal Porcelain Works is the real deal - a working factory where fine china has been made since 1751, and you can actually watch craftspeople doing it. That's the main draw here: seeing potters at their wheels, painters applying gold leaf by hand, and kilns doing their thing. The factory shop is decent enough if you fancy taking home a plate or two, though prices reflect the quality.

It's not a museum in the traditional sense - there's no velvet ropes or interactive screens - so you need to be genuinely interested in how porcelain gets made. Kids under about ten might lose interest fairly quickly unless they're the hands-on type. Walkers and anyone with a soft spot for British manufacturing will find it proper rewarding. The works sit right in Worcester itself, which means you're minutes from the cathedral and the river if you want to pad out a half-day visit.

Best to ring ahead and check current opening arrangements - these things change. A couple of hours is the right amount of time, longer if you're thinking of buying something. It's free to wander around the shop, though the factory tours themselves may have a charge. If you're camping nearby at Worcester Glamping or Ketch Caravan Park, it's a quick hop into town. Worth fitting in alongside the cathedral and perhaps a riverside walk rather than treating it as a full day's outing.
