Round Wood

Round Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Worksop, the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. It's straightforward stuff - mature mixed woodland with decent paths, nothing fancy, but genuinely pleasant for a few hours if you're staying in the area.

What you get is a chance to stretch your legs through tree cover without the crowds. The wood itself is unremarkable in terms of features - no dramatic clearings or viewpoints - but that's partly the appeal. You're here to walk, breathe forest air, and maybe spot the odd bit of wildlife. The paths are manageable enough for families with kids, though wellies are sensible after rain because it can get boggy in patches.

Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it easy, less if you just want a quick circuit. It works well as a half-day add-on during a park holiday at Clumber Park Lodges or one of the other caravan sites nearby - you're only 4 or 5 miles from Round Wood, so no trek. Clumber Park itself is the bigger draw for a week's stay, but this wood is useful when you fancy something lower-key and closer to Worksop town.

Best visited when it's not sodden wet. Summer and early autumn are your sweet spot. Bring a map or check your phone's offline maps before you go - signage isn't always obvious. Free to access, naturally.
