Round Spinney

A small woodland patch just outside Wingrave, Round Spinney is the sort of place you'll either love for its simplicity or skip entirely - there's no middle ground. It's genuinely tiny, perhaps fifteen minutes on foot if you're dawdling, so don't expect to carve out a full morning here.

What you get is exactly what's on the tin: a copse of mixed trees and a walking track that loops through. There's a real sense of stepping away from the Buckinghamshire countryside into something properly shaded and quiet. The ground is often muddy, which is fine if you're in proper boots, less fine in trainers. Bring the dog, bring the kids for a quick run-around, or use it as a leg-stretcher between longer walks in the area.

The real win is location. You're close enough to Wingrave to make this work as part of a wider afternoon's exploration, and if you're staying at Wingbury Farm Glamping just down the road, it's a handy ten-minute drive or decent walk for some fresh air without the faff of planning an expedition. It won't captivate adults on its own, but younger children enjoy the trees and the relative solitude.

Free access and no opening hours nonsense makes it appealingly low-friction. Go when you want, stay as long as you like. Just manage expectations - this is a pocket woodland, not a destination in itself. Worth knowing about if you're in the area, not worth going out of your way for.
