Round Hill

Round Hill sits just outside Benfleet and is, frankly, one of those walks you do because you're staying nearby rather than because you've heard about it. It's a modest peak - nothing dramatic, nothing that'll take your breath away - but on a clear day the views across Essex and into Kent are genuinely decent.

The walk itself is straightforward enough for families with older kids, though there's nothing here to keep under-eights entertained for long. Give it an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're taking photos and lingering. The path is well-trodden, relatively short, and you won't need serious kit. Sensible shoes though - it can get muddy after rain.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks - Essex Glamping is barely a mile away, or Black Horse Farm Caravan Club if you're in a motorhome - Round Hill makes a decent leg-stretcher without eating into a proper day out. It's the sort of spot you tick off rather than plan a trip around. The Benfleet area has better things to offer if you're willing to drive twenty minutes for proper attractions.

Truth is, if walking is your thing and you're camped locally, go for it. The views are fine and the effort required is minimal. But don't rearrange your holiday to visit. There's no visitor centre, no facilities at the top, no real infrastructure. What you're getting is a straightforward country walk with decent views - nothing more, nothing less.
