Rosemary Vineyard

The Island's only commercial vineyard sits on a south-facing slope near Ryde, and it's genuinely surprising what they've managed to pull off in the English climate. You're looking at a working vineyard where they grow their own grapes and produce white wines, reds, and rosés - all made on-site. The views across the Solent aren't bad either.

Once you've had a walk through the vines (weather permitting), you'll find yourself in their tasting room. This is where it gets interesting. Rather than just buying a bottle and leaving, you can sample their current releases and chat through what they're trying to achieve. It's low-key and unsnobby - exactly what you want from a small vineyard operation.

There's a cafe on the grounds too, which makes sense if you're bringing family along. The kids won't care much about the fermentation tanks, but they might enjoy the space and the novelty of seeing where wine actually comes from.

If you're staying at St Helens Coastal Resort or Old Mill Holiday Park nearby - both just a couple of miles away - this fills an afternoon nicely without any faffing about. Aim for late spring through autumn when the vineyard's actually open and the grounds are looking their best.
