River Severn

The Severn isn't really a destination you tick off a map - it's more a thread that runs through a Worcestershire holiday. Britain's longest river, it curves through Worcester itself, and if you're staying at Dawleys Caravan Park or Rockridge Farm Campsite just outside town, you'll find yourself drawn to it naturally.

The river proper is best appreciated on foot. Walk the banks near Worcester's centre and you get a real sense of why the city matters - medieval bridges, weirs, the whole lot. The water moves properly here, not some gentle stream. If you time it right after rainfall, it's genuinely impressive. Take it downstream towards Tewkesbury and the landscape opens up - agricultural, quiet, the kind of stretch where you actually hear water and birds rather than traffic.

Walkers will get the most from the Severn. The towpath sections between Worcester and Tewkesbury are manageable day walks, nothing punishing, and locals use them seriously rather than for Instagram moments. Families with young kids might find a short riverside stroll enough - there's something compelling about a big river, even if it's just watching the current.

It's free, obviously. No gates, no entry fees. The real bonus for caravan parks within striking distance - Croft Farm Water Park at 5.0 miles or Cotswold Grange at 4.1 miles - is that you can base yourself nearby and have the river as part of a wider loop around Worcestershire rather than treating it as a separate outing.
