Ripon Motor Boat Club Marina

The marina sits on the Ripon Canal, where it widens into a proper boating hub just outside the cathedral city of Ripon. You'll find moored narrowboats, cabin cruisers, and the occasional kayak lined up along the water, with a clubhouse serving as the social nerve centre. It's less about splashing about yourself and more about watching the canal life unfold - the lock gates, the steady traffic of leisure boats heading towards the Ouse, the occasional angler trying their luck from the towpath.

This is ideal territory for walkers rather than swimmers. The canal towpath offers a gentle, flat route in either direction, brilliant for families with younger kids or anyone after an easy couple of hours. The marina itself takes about 20 minutes to properly wander around and photograph. History buffs get a kick from the Victorian engineering - the canal's been working since 1773, and you can still see that heritage in the lock mechanisms and old stonework.

Staying at Riverside Meadows Caravan Park just down the road gives you direct canal-side access without needing a boat. Woodhouse Farm, further out, works if you want a quieter base and don't mind the short drive in. Neither park will bore you - they're proper full-service sites. The real pull here is combining the marina with Ripon's cathedral and market square rather than making it a standalone afternoon. Do that and you've got a solid day sorted.
