Ridding Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a formal attraction, Ridding Wood sits just outside Carnforth and offers something refreshingly low-key. You get mature broadleaf trees, decent footpaths that wind through the canopy, and the kind of quiet you don't find near towns. It's the sort of place where you might actually hear birds instead of traffic.

Walkers will find it worthwhile - nothing too strenuous, more of a gentle amble that takes the better part of an hour depending on which route you fancy. The woodland floor is soft underfoot, which is lovely in autumn when the leaf litter's thick, though it can get boggy after heavy rain. There's real character to it, especially if you're after somewhere to stretch your legs without the crowds you'd get at a proper tourist spot.

It works well as a break between other activities during a park holiday. If you're staying at Once Upon a Fell or Primrose Glamping Pods nearby, Ridding Wood is close enough for a morning expedition without burning half your day on travel. Neither a destination in itself nor a tick-box moment - just a genuine, unpretentious walk through decent woodland. Worth doing if you're in the area and fancy some peace and quiet among the trees.
