Rhydycroesau Woodlands

The woods at Rhydycroesau feel properly Welsh - dark, dense, and a bit wild around the edges. You're looking at a genuine mixed woodland that's more about rambling than viewing platforms or visitor centres, which is exactly what makes it worth the journey from Llanymynech.

It's the kind of place that rewards walkers more than casual strollers. The trails wind through established trees with enough elevation change to make your legs know you've done something, but nothing that'll wreck you for the rest of the day. On a decent day the views open up across the border country - you can see proper distance from the higher bits.

Who'll get the most from it? Anyone who likes actual woodland, basically. Not toddlers after a quick loop and an ice cream. Older kids who enjoy spotting things and exploring will be fine. The land feels lived-in rather than manicured, which some folk find refreshing and others find a bit too much like actual work.

Timing-wise, allow a couple of hours minimum if you're doing this properly. It's free to access, which is rare enough these days. Come when it's not raining if you can help it - the paths get slick and the whole thing turns into a proper slog.
