Rea's Wood

The walk through Rea's Wood comes as a proper surprise if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks around Antrim. It's a local woodland that doesn't make it onto many tourist radars, which means you'll likely have the trails mostly to yourself - a rarity in Northern Ireland these days.

What you get here are woodland paths that meander through mature trees, with the Six Mile Water running through the valley below. It's the kind of place where you notice things: dappled light, the sound of water, the occasional flash of movement through the undergrowth. There's nothing flashy about it. No visitor centre, no information boards, just woodland as it is.

For families, it works best if your kids are happy to walk for 45 minutes to an hour without constant entertainment. Older children who like exploring will find plenty to do - wading in the water if the weather allows, spotting wildlife. Younger ones might get restless. Walkers will appreciate the peaceful trails and the gentle riverside scenery.

It's a solid option if you're based at Six Mile Water Caravan Park or Blair's Castlewood - close enough for a morning walk without driving anywhere. Combine it with Antrim town itself (just half a mile away) and you've got a decent morning sorted. Don't expect anything ambitious or dramatic. This is straightforward, local woodland walking done well.
