Ramoan Parish

The small stone church at Ramoan sits quietly above the rolling countryside between Ballymoney and the coast, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. This is proper old-school ecclesiastical architecture - the kind of place where you can almost hear the centuries settling into the walls.

What you're looking at is a parish church with genuine roots in the area's religious history, though I'll be honest: there's not a great deal of visitor infrastructure here. It's the kind of stop that appeals to church architecture enthusiasts and local history buffs rather than families after a full afternoon's entertainment. Twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're photographing the stonework or reading the gravestones.

The real draw is the peace of it. Standing outside Ramoan, you get a proper sense of rural Northern Ireland - just fields and sky and the kind of quiet that's become rarer. It works well as part of a broader drive through the Causeway Coast and Glens, especially if you're basing yourself at somewhere like Watertop Farm just five miles away. That holiday park is excellent, by the way - the kind of place where families actually want to stay - and Ramoan makes a peaceful break between longer walks or coastal trips.

Getting here requires your own transport. Parking's not really a factor because it's barely a stopping point. Go when the light's good, and don't expect tea and toilets. This is about the building itself and the landscape around it.
