RAF Spilsby

The airfield sprawls across the Lincolnshire flatlands about 10 miles inland from Skegness, and what you're looking at is one of the few remaining WWII RAF stations that actually feels like it's still got breath in it. This works best for military history enthusiasts and anyone with a specific connection to the station. Kids might manage 30 minutes if they're keen, but it's not a destination in itself. The Layby Lincs is closest if you want to be right on the doorstep. Best visited on a clear day when you can actually see across the airfield - a grey, damp afternoon here feels properly melancholic.
