Rae Loch

Rae Loch is a modest freshwater lake sitting just outside Blairgowrie, popular with local anglers and walkers who want a quiet afternoon without the crowds that flock to the larger Scottish lochs. The water is ringed by trees and rough grassland - nothing dramatic, but genuinely peaceful. You can walk the shoreline in about an hour depending on how far you venture, and there's usually a decent chance of spotting waterfowl if you're patient.

It works best for families after a lazy morning at one of the nearby holiday parks - Blairgowrie Holiday Park is only a mile or so away, making it handy for a lunchtime excursion. Dog walkers get proper use from this spot too. The main draw is fishing though; if you've got a rod and a licence, this is why you'd come. Casual visitors who aren't anglers might find themselves finished with it in forty minutes, so don't expect the kind of all-day engagement you'd get from a larger attraction.

Access appears unrestricted, and there's no charge, which counts in its favour. Go when the weather's decent - midweek is quieter than weekends. This works best as part of a broader Perthshire itinerary rather than a day trip destination on its own. Blairgowrie itself has better facilities for food and supplies, so sort yourself out there before heading to the loch.
