Queen Elizabeth Park

The Thames Path cuts right through here, and that's honestly the best reason to come. Queen Elizabeth Park sits just outside Guildford on a proper bend of the river, and the walking is straightforward - no scrambling about or surprises. You're looking at meadows, woodland, and the water itself doing most of the talking.

It's a reserve rather than a manicured park, which means it feels actual. Birdwatchers genuinely get something from it; the riverside habitat pulls in kingfishers and various waders depending on season. If you're walking the Thames Path anyway - and plenty of people do - you'll pass through without fussing. It's free and accessible, which helps.

Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might flag once the novelty of counting ducks wears off. It's a solid couple of hours if you're not rushing, less if you're just transit-walking. Spring and early autumn bring the best birdsong and don't feel oppressively hot.

Nearby Chantry Wood Campsite sits only a few miles back towards Guildford, making this a decent leg-stretch option if you're camped there. It's not a destination in itself - don't drive out specifically for Queen Elizabeth Park - but if you're already in the Guildford area or planning the Thames Path walk, it's worthwhile. The river views are proper lovely when the light's right.
